Christmas at The Forest Side Christmas in the Lake District

Arrive from 3pm, when we’ll welcome you to The Forest Side with a glass of sparkling local mead and a mince pie or two. Then there’s nothing much you need to do. Settle into your room, find a spot by the fire or head outside for a little fresh air before the light disappears.

As evening draws in, we’ll gather in the lounge for a glass of fizz and a little entertainment before moving through to the restaurant, where Paul and his team will serve a four-course Christmas Eve dinner.

Then the rest of the evening is yours. Linger over another drink, head for bed, or simply enjoy the fact that, for the next couple of days, someone else is taking care of Christmas.

Christmas morning begins slowly, with breakfast served at leisure. Afterwards, there’s time for presents, a coffee by the fire or a wander through the grounds before heading back inside for the main event: Paul’s eight-course Christmas lunch.

The afternoon is deliberately unhurried, with homemade gingerbread and tea, board games and our Christmas Quiz in the lounge with a magnum of Champagne for the winners. You can, of course, do absolutely nothing at all!

By evening, nobody needs another tasting menu, so we’ll lay out a classic Christmas spread, done The Forest Side way. Generous, informal and full of the things you find yourself going back for.

After breakfast, Boxing Day is all yours. Head out for a walk from the door, wander down to the shores of Grasmere or stay closer to home and join our sommelier for a tutored wine tasting at 1pm.

Back at The Forest Side, we’ll have scones, cakes and tea waiting for the afternoon. Then, as evening draws in, we’ll gather for a farewell glass of fizz before sitting down to a four-course dinner — one last evening together before Christmas comes to a close.

Prices are per room for the three-night Christmas stay and include breakfast and dinner each day, Christmas Day lunch and all the festive food and drinks detailed above.*

Staying a little longer?
Add a night before or after Christmas and we’ll take 10% off the additional night, subject to availability.

Booking & payment
We’ll hold a provisional booking for 14 days. A non-refundable deposit of £750 per room then confirms your stay, with the balance due by 1 November 2026. For bookings made after this date, full payment is required when booking.

Children
Children are very welcome. For rates for children sharing with two adults, including their meals and any cots, high chairs or extra beds required, please speak to our reception team.

Dogs
Dogs are welcome in six of our bedrooms at £25 per dog, per night.
