A Picture Perfect Christmas in the Lake District

Christmas at Forest Side, Grasmere

We like our Christmas to be a relaxed affair, after all your stay is an opportunity to relax and indulge… We promise you wonderful food in beautiful surroundings, decorated of course with greenery…. a traditional Christmas feel without the chintz…

So here goes the formal bit… a description of what you will experience…

Arrive at Forest Side on Christmas Eve from 3pm where the warmest welcome will await you along with a glass of sparkling local mead and a fest mince pie or two and relax in our informal surroundings, or if you fancy a little competition, why not try your hand at one of our traditional wooden games…

Later that evening join us for a glass of something fizzy prior to dinner, take the opportunity to get to know the team at Forest Side and your fellow guests whilst the Serafin String Quartet gently serenades you before you adjourn to the restaurant to enjoy a delicious tasting menu.

After dinner, you may wish to visit St Oswald’s Church in Grasmere and enjoy midnight mass with carols, and should you venture out on your return, you could always enjoy a winter warmer in the bar…

On Christmas morning, a hearty breakfast will be served at your leisure, this then leaves you some relaxing time to open your presents or perhaps amble through our stunning grounds and see the kitchen garden and woodland, working up an appetite ready for your Christmas Lunch with something more traditional than turkey…

Later that afternoon enjoy a light afternoon tea with scones and cakes and if you’re feeling brave pit your wits against your fellow guests by taking part in our quiz of the year…

In the evening our chefs will present a wonderful Hog Roast buffet supper, with trimmings and sides, a selection of cheeses and a selection of cakes and pastries – just to make sure you won’t go to bed hungry. Perhaps afterwards you might consider indulging in a cocktail or two by the roaring lounge fire…

After a lazy brunch on Boxing Day, we will be delighted to assist you in planning your day’s activities. Join our sommelier for a wine tasting with a twist, or perhaps explore one of the many local walks from our doorstep, including a gentle stroll along the shores of Grasmere…

During the afternoon, home-made ginger bread and tea will be available. On your return take the opportunity to kick back and relax, enjoy a glass of farewell fizz, before indulging in the evening’s repast and a specially created ‘Bait’ style menu.

On the morning of the 27th a late leisurely breakfast is served before saying our goodbyes.
